Meet Cresson Haugland:

The Basics

Where are you from?

Originally from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I have lived in Tennessee for 7 years including my time at Vanderbilt and my time on staff with Young Life in Memphis.

What is the one thing about yourself that you would like people to know?

I often feel myself caught in between two extremes: the desire to grab a backpack and explore the unknown, finding pleasure in unique adventures and chance encounters alongside the contentment that comes with sitting on a porch swing lingering in the silence and safety of good company.

Do you believe a cup is half empty or half full?

I believe this is a leading question…

What adjective would a close friend use to describe you?

What was your first job?

I worked in the snack shop of a local water park during the summer. It was about as terrible as it sounds.

What makes you laugh?

Bitmojis in costumes, longstanding, not funny, inside jokes and the friends that humor me in them.

How do you spend your spare time?

Making lists of things I should be doing, daydreaming about things that didn’t make those lists, pursuing the latter and extending the former.

About your practice

What do you value about being a therapist?

When I consider the things I cherish most in life—seeking truth, authentic relationships, and a growing sense of curiosity—they closely align with the values of a positive therapeutic environment.

What do you think is important for a client to look for in a therapist?

Someone who can simultaneously disrupt and comfort; hold joy and sorrow; and elicit hope amidst uncertainty.

How does your faith play itself out in your work as a therapist?

The main influence of my faith is the way in which I systemically view the world and the work of therapy as a means to invite restoration into brokenness.
